Iced Fire

Iced Fire I was finally bored enough to attempt an idea I have had for awhile – ice which is on fire. I started this late one night and didn’t spend much time on it. I only shot several shots after running into issues with getting the flames on the actual ice cubes. I ended up with shots capturing good flames and shots with sharp ice cubes. Unfortunately, these never happened in the same frame.

The setup was ice cubes on a an old cooking sheet in a dark room. The flames were created by igniting rubbing alcohol. I originally tried to pool the rubbing alcohol on the ice cubes, but was unable to light it. I’m not sure if it became diluted too quickly. Perhaps I need to try this again with lower temperatures to keep the ice from melting too fast (resulting in too much liquid water).
